Zipporah was born in 1796 in Salem in Harrison County, Virginia (in present day West Virginia). She was the daughter of John Davis and Marvel Maxson. In 1818 at the age of 22, she married Samuel Fitz Randolph in Harrison County. They stayed initially in Harrison County and began a family together that would eventually total ten children. According to birthplaces of children, the family moved to Ohio between 1828 and 1832, settling first in Clark in Pike County, and then finally to farm in Jackson township in nearby Shelby County where a Seventh Day Baptist community had established. Samuel passed away in 1858, either in Jackson or possibly as they were moving west. By 1860, Zipporah had joined her son Jackson's family in Gentry County, Missouri, and in 1862, Zipporah bought 40 acres of land near Humboldt, Nebraska. Although in 1865, she was living with a daughter's family in Kansas, by 1870, she had settled in Humboldt with her daughter Olive Jane's family. Zipporah died there in 1872.

Surname note
In this Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been used by all family members as part of their surname: the Oris H.F. Randolph genealogy (referenced below) assumes this to be the case when listing the children in both the family in which Samuel is a child and the one in which he is the father. The current consensus is therefore to use the surname Fitz Randolph. (Need to confirm how Fitz Randolph was used in legal documents and when births were recorded documents.) Please don't hesitate to contact the profile manager if you think this decision should be reviewed!
Geography Note
Zipporah lived her childhood in Harrison County which at the time was part of the State of Virginia. The county was in the part of Virginia that in 1863 became the State of West Virginia.
