Notes

"Harman and Nancy Davis left South Carolina after the birth of their first, Lucinda, who was born in 1821. They moved to Georgia where they lived about 10 years. Their daughter, Sarah Davis Martin, was born in Alabama around 1832. In tracing Harman's trail, census records indicate that he came via Tuscaloosa County, then on to Hancock (Winston) before 1850. The family was still in Winston County, Alabama where census records find them in 1860. 1 Harman "Harm" Davis and family came into Winston County long before the Civil War. They were some of the very earliest settlers. After the war and the death of Harm, several members of the family moved into Walker county. Others migrated to Texas and Oklahoma, as new opportunities opened for them. 1 W.S. Thompson, in his historical novel, 'Tories of the Hill', mentions Harm Davis. This book describes the struggles of guerrilla warfare between the pro-union faction and pro-south faction of Winston County. On page 167, Harm tells Judge Parker, that the home guard was being shot at by the Tories (Union sympathizers) at Gold Mine, west of Little New River. In the spring of 1864, a group of Tories went to the Harm Davis place, burned his cotton gin and caught Harm and burned his feet in the fireplace trying to get Harm to tell where his money was hidden! It is believed Harm died as a result of this. He died in 1865 with burial in Winston County, Alabama. Nancy and Harman Davis had eleven children.". 1 As quoted from the book by Pat York Davis, Davis Trail and Tracing and Connections in Walker County, Alabama. 1

Davis-43169 and Davis-13824 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same birth year and place. Need to resolve fathers first name.
