”Whereas John Smith late of the county afores’d yeoman deceased” id not designate a guardian for his daughter Betty Smith (aged 8 years), the Court – at the petition of Mark Davis former guardian to the minor – appoints “Dorman Lofley & Comfort his wife, sister to the said minor” to be the guardian of Betty, her person & estate.”

estate of JOHN SMITH

pursuant to March 1767 petition, for division of tract called ‘Lebanon.’ As heirs, 3 sons, David, John, & Nutter Smith died without issue and intestate, lands are divided among other surviving children, to wit

Thomas Smith, a minor – receives portion of dwelling plantation, 176 acres

Comfort Smith, the wife of Dormand Loughland, and Dorman Loughland – 100 acres where they now dwell, plus a portion of 35 acres that was willed to David Smith, deceased. Equals 135 acres total.

Elizabeth Smith a minor – 12 acres of woodland with some clear land included
