"Dr. James Dorr Davis was the oldest son of Nehemiah and Phoebe (Dorr) Davis. His family moved from Maine to Athens County, Ohio, when he was two years old. Dr. Davis fathered ten children by his first wife, Martha Pugsley (1797-1832), and ten more children by his second wife, Marcie James (1809-1856).
