Biography

Jabez Davis born ___, was the son of John and Hannah (Linnell) Davis. ^[1]

He married on August 20, 1689, Experience, daughter of David and Hannah (Shelley) Linnell. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

Experience's mother, the widow Hannah Linnell, wrote her will February 2, 1708/9 and it was proved the following April 5th. In it she mentions Experience, wife of Jabez Davis. ^[2]

Jabez Davis and Experience (Linnell) Davis were first cousins. Experience's father, David Linnell and Jabez's mother Hannah Linnell were siblings.

He died between September 29, 1710 (the writing of his will) ^[4] and October 3, 1710, (the inventory of his estate.) His estate was valued L538 16s 8d with debts due at L38 15s and L3 8s. ^[5]

His will was written on September 29. 1710 and on January 3, 1710/11, his witnesses gave oath to his signing. In it he names: ^[4]

• sons Nathan, Isaac, Jacob, Samuel and Solomon
• daughters Bathshena, Abigail and Mary
• wife Experience sole executrix ^[4]

In the will of his brother Samuel, dated June 25, 1711, he mentions Samuel, son of my brother Jabez, deceased. ^[2]

After his death, his widow Experience married Benjamin Hatch on February 13, 1711/12, as his third wife. ^[6]

In the 1719 distribution of his brother Benjamin Davis' estate, their were nine lots divided among his siblings, including one lot to the heirs of Jabez Davis. ^[7]
