Biography

Babson says of him, "James [son of James and Bethiah Leach, grandson of Capt. James and Mehitable], born in 1690, was twice married : first, in 1719, to Mary Haraden, who died June 22, 1753; and next to Mrs. Hannah Saunders. He became one of the most useful and honored citizens of his time. He resided at Squam, and was one of the deacons of the church there nearly half a century. He also filled all the civil offices held by his father and grandfather ; serving the town as one of its selectmen for a long course of years, and for seven years as its representative.[1]
