Everything about Luther's name and past is in question. I am pretty sure that he was not born a Davis. There has been speculation from other family members about his true past, but I have seen no proof that would satisfy me. For this reason I only publish what I absolutely know. A man calling himself Luther Kane Davis, married Leonie Almira Marden and they are the parents of Inez Marden Davis, who is the mother of Alden Owen [1]

From FindaGrave:

Luther has a very interesting family history. Luther was born to Mary Ann Bressette in the St. Lawrence New York poor house. His Birth name was John Bressette.

Luther was adopted by Sarah (Davis) and her husband Henry Lewis Clukey.

Luther is first found in the 1880 census as King L Clukey. In 1900 he is living with his adopted grandparents Edward Davis listed as King L Davie (Davis).

In 1905 he marries Leonie Marden and states that his name is Luther K Davis b TN father Henry Mother Violet Benson or Page. We are unsure why he changed his name from Clukey to Davis, and made up a new family, but Luther was not born in TN and his adopted father was Henry but not Henry Davis. [2]
