Explanation: William Jr.'s father, after serving in the Civil War, died in 1864 during the yellow fever epidemic which swept through Washington, D.C. Jr.'s mother, Adaline (EDWARDS) DAVIS, then married William Jr.'s uncle (Thomas Hart Benton DAVIS, brother to William T. DAVIS Sr.) Adaline is the daughter of John William EDWARDS Sr., born 1804.
