Biography

Mercer Davis, 79, 103 N. Mercer Ave, McLean County farmer and real estate developer died at 7:30 p.m Thursday at the Baltz Nursing Home, Normal. He had been in failing health five years and bed fast two years. He was taken to the Beck Memorial Home.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m Saturday at the family residence. Entombment will be in the Park Hill Mausoleum. The family has requested that no tangible expressions of sympathy be made. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening at the residence.
Mr Davis operated a large farm and raised livestock near Gridley. He retired about 1925 and managed farm lands and developed several subdivisions including Country Club Place in Bloomington. He maintained an office in Bloomington the last 20 years and was deeply interested in development of family lands inherited from his grandfather, David Davis, in local charities and soil conservation.
He was born May 6, 1878 in Bloomington, a son of George Perrin and Ella Hanna Davis. He attended Bloomington schools, Lawrenceville prep school in New Jersey and the Hotchkiss school in Connecticut.
He married Dorothy Phelps April 12, 1903 in Fairbury.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Robert H., 202 N Belmont Rd; a daughter, Mrs George E Holder R R 1; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A brother, a sister and a daughter preceded him in death.
