William, residing on HMS Gladiator, married Hannah Stevens, residing in Portsmouth, on 17 February 1814 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.[2]
"William Davis was Mate on the 105 ton brig Bulbury, out of Poole, England, in 1819 when she was wrecked in heavy winds at Fogo on August 15/16, with Thomas Frampton as Master. With a load of salt onboard, she had sailed from Lisbon on July 4th bound for Slade Company in Fogo, Newfoundland. She made land at Cape John on 15th August, and then made way to Fogo, where she got caught in heavy winds and was wrecked."[3]
William married Sarah Aley on 21 September 1824 at St Mary's Church, Alverstoke, Hampshire, England.[4]
Several Davis children were baptised on 9 June 1830, with no parents recorded, in Greenspond parish and born on Pinchard's Island:
Inferred son Thomas, of Pinchard's Island, married in 1850. One of the witnesses was George Davis. His inferred birth date (from death record) is 1823, yet he does not appear in the 1830 group baptism.
Inferred daughter Ruth, of Pinchard's Island, married in 1858. The witnesses were Abraham and James Davis.
Davis is not an uncommon surname in Newfoundland and South West England. It is not yet clear how the connection was made between the William Davis who married Hannah Stevens, the one who married Sarah Adey, and the one who lived on Pinchard's Island. Glover-6114 15:40, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
