DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ebenezer by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ebenezer:
Davis-35450 and Davis-23611 appear to represent the same person because: This is a duplicate of the earlier Ebenezer Davis, whose birthdate, birthplace, and parents are still unknown. There is no documented connection to any of the dozens of Ebenezer Davises in New England, and it would be highly unlikely in any case.
Many online trees do claim those things, and they are all wrong. That was probably a mistake in some early-internet tree, and got copied promiscuously for years, without serious consideration by most, nor citing a single source. When I first started in genealogy, I copied those same claims. Now I have debunked those claims after several years of research, online and on the ground in Maryland and elsewhere. In fact, I have cataloged more than 80 Ebenezer Davises in 18th–19th century New England and the Mid-Atlantic states.
The Ebenezer Davis who married Sarah Town was born 4 Oct 1744 in Oxford, Massachusetts. He married Sarah 25 Apr 1777 in Oxford or Sutton, Massachusetts (it was recorded in both towns). Sarah most likely died before he remarried Mary Wakefield 10 Jan 1784 in Oxford, and she most likely died before he remarried Hannah Gary 20 Oct 1787 in Pomfret, Connecticut. His only recorded children were Jonas (1788–1866), Hannah (1791–1849), and Ebenezer (1794–1864), all with his third wife. He died 13 Jan 1794 in Oxford, before his son Ebenezer was even born. The similar death date to the Ebenezer Davis of Maryland is possibly why people have mixed the two up, but they were definitely different men.
This Ebenezer Davis was certainly born earlier, since he had children by the late 1740s. However, we still have no evidence giving his birthdate nor age at any point during his life.
