Elnora "Nora" Davis was born on July 24, 1890.[1][2] She was the fifth child, and second daughter, of child of Franklin and Ella Davis. Frank owned a farm in Underhill Township, Oconto County, Wisconsin at the time.
In 1900 she lived on the farm in Underhill Township with her parents and her siblings: David, age 20, Floyd, age 15, Maud, age 14, Eugene, listed here by his first name, "Archie", age 11, Frank, age 8, DeForest, age 4, and baby Maurice, aged 2 months. David's occupation was listed as "Farm laborer."[3] Sadly, Maurice would die later that year.[4]
The 1905 census shows her still living with parents on their farm.[5]
In 1910. Elnora is 19, and has married William Albert Cato. Interestingly, his occupation is listed as "photographer," on a farm.[6]
By 1920 Nora and William had moved to Suring, Oconto County, Wisconsin, where they lived with their daughter Evelyn, age 8, and son Richard, age 17 months.[7]At this time will was listed as a "Contractor," doing "Cement work."
The 1930 census shows Elnora and William still in Suring, with son Richard, age 10. William Cato is now working as a "Log hooker" in a Lumber Mill.[8] Her "age at first marriage" is listed at 19, so since she was born on July 24 1890, and this census was taken on April 8, 1930, we can surmise that she and William were married between July 1909 and April 1910, when she was enumerated in that census, and is listed as "married."
The 1940 census shows Elnora, William, and son Richard, now age 20, living in Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin. William works for a construction company as a cement finisher, and Richard was employed as an attendant at a filling station.[9]
Elnora "Nora" (Davis) Cato died on October 25, 1974, in Los Angeles, at age 84.[1][2]
