Robert's grandfather, Nathaniel Davis, was a Welshman and early settler in the region who made a large fortune by having choice river-bottom lands and trading with the Indians.
His father Robert Davis had at least four siblings: Martha Davis who married Abraham Venable; Abadiah (also called Abigail) Davis who married William Floyd; Mary Davis who married Samuel Burks.
The death of John and Robert Davis of Amhurst was recorded by Colonel Fleming as he traveled the Wilderness Trail in early May of 1780. Fleming recorded the discovery of Robert's body in his journal . Details are included in Robert Kincaid's "The Wilderness Road" on page 156.
