OBITUARY.
MR. DAVID DAVIS.
One of the oldest and best known residents of the Orange district was removed when death came to Mr. David Davis at his home at Spring Hill, at the advanced age of 93 years, at 1 o'clock yesterday morning. The late Mr. Davis was the last surviving member of a family known for the best part of a century over the whole of the district. Born at Windsor, near Sydney, he himself as a young man of about 20 came to Spring Hill, and for the past 70 yeas or more had carried out the occupation of a farmer there. He was twice married, his first wife (a Miss Nesbitt) predeceasing him a considerable number of years ago, while about 35 years ago he was married to a well-known member of the Windsor district in the person or Miss Turnbull. Naturally of a shy and retiring disposition, the late Mr. Davis took no active part in the social activities of the town, but was a very staunch Methodist Church supporter, and was, it is understood, one of the first members to bring about the erection of the present Methodist Church in Spring Hill. He had enjoyed almost perfect health until about ten days before the date of his death, when he was taken ill with an attack of bronchitis and although he appeared to recover, he suffered a relapse, and his death followed as a result of the gradual weakening of the system due mainly to the attack. He is survived by his wife and one son (John, Spring Terrace) and a daughter (Mrs. Ryan, Sydney). The funeral, which was one of the largest seen in Spring Hill for a considerable time, left for the Methodist section of the Spring Hill cemetery at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
