George was born in 1900 in Lewisham, Kent, England, the first child of George Davis and Ada Summers. The family emigrated to Toronto Ontario Canada in 1907. When George's mother died in 1911, his father put George and his two younger brothers into a Barnardo orphanage in Toronto and returned to England. George was taken to live with a farm couple named William and Edith Halbert near Primrose, Ontario, Canada. They treated him well and he remained in touch with members of their family for the rest of his life. George returned to Toronto at age 17 and worked at several jobs. He eventually qualified as an auto mechanic. He married and had four children, and lived in Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Hamilton before finally settling in Aldershot, Burlington, Ontario. A very practical man, George largely built the last two houses he and his wife lived in. George passed away from a heart attack in Burlington in 1969.
