Thomas also served under Captain John Dewitt, Captain Ellerby, Captain William Preswood, Captain Benton, Major Robert Lloyd, Major Tristan Thomas and Colonel George Hicks, before he was captured by the British and became a prisoner of war. Wadsworth. [2]

Researchers Notes

  • Fact: Military Service (1779) He was a private in the Revolution, 5th Co., Captain Thomas Hall, Marion's Regiment. (Saffell's Register, pg. 292; Stub Entries to Indents, Lib. N, No. 173; S.A.R. 40464)
  • Fact: Burial (MAR 1845) Buried in the old Eddings-Davis Cemetery outside Chesterfield,Chesterfield Co,SC.
  • Fact: D.A.R. Marker on Headstone Thomas Davis is buried in the old Eddings-Davis cemetery. There are 2 old Davis Cemeteries in Chesterfield. I think Thomas is buried off Water Plant Rd. (GPS: N34 44.417 / W80 03.635). The Cemetery is about 30 feet or so off the road in a Pine thicket. I was there once with my Grandfather about 35 years ago. the Davis Cemetery#2 is located at the corner of Fred Davis & Green Valley Rd. on the right in the middle of the field. (GPS: N34 46.057 / W80 02.743)
  • Fact: Discrepancy in DOB. According to "History of the Davis Family in Wales and America" by Harry Alexander Davis in 1927, "The exact date is not known and records are conflicting, i.e., Census records from 1790 to 1840 inclusive show him born 1755-56; a marker on his grave placed by D.A.R. shows b. 1749, d. 1844; this is known to be erroneous; an old family bible of a Grandson started after 1840 states he died 1845 aged 85 years."
