Thomas Davis was born March 22, 1760, in Craven county, South Carolina. Thomas entered the American Revolutionary War as a Private in Captain Morris Murphy's company of the South Carolina Militia. Thomas also served under Captain John Dewitt, Captain Ellerby, Captain William Preswood, Captain Benton, Major Robert Lloyd, Major Tristan Thomas and Colonel George Hicks, before he was captured by the British and became a prisoner of war. Thomas Davis is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A030695. DAR records indicate that he died March 20, 1845, in Cheraws District (Chesterfield county) South Carolina and that his wife's name was Nancy Rivers. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their sons, William Davis, who married Julia Thurman; John Calvin Davis, who married Charlotte Hurst; and of their daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Davis, who married Lewis Boatwright; and Susannah Davis, who married John H. Wadsworth. [2]
