Clayton Crawford Davis was born March 5, 1859 in Roanoke, Alabama to father Joseph H. Davis and mother Mary Gillespie.^[1]

He was noted as born 1859 in Alabama as seen in the image of the original census. Crawford C Davis was enumerated at Roanoke Post Office, Township 21, Randolph County, Alabama for the July 25, United States Census, 1870. He was noted as born 1858-1859 in Alabama as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are male Joseph H Davis, female Mary Davis, male David L Davis, male John S Davis, male Natten (Walter) S Davis, male Robt S Davis, male Stephen H Davis, female Hamet (Harriet) H Davis and female Amoce Fanny.^[3]
