At the time of the 1860 census, 16-year-old Joseph W. was working as a farm laborer. He was living with his father, step-mother, and siblings in Pierce County, GA. [2]
At the time of the 1870 census, 27-year-old Joseph was working as a farmer. He was living with his wife, their 1-year-old son, and an 11-year-old Lydia D. Cason. They were living in Pierce County, GA. [3]
At the time of the 1900 census, 59-year-old Joe was working as a farmer in Pierce County, GA. He had been married to "Lizzie" for 32 years. He could not read or write. Living with Joe and Lizzie were 7 of their 11 children. [4]
MILITARY - Joseph W. Davis enlisted as a Private in Co. A 1st. Regiment, 1st Brigade Georgia State Troops, Oct. 3, 1861. Private Davis mustered out April 18th of 1862. He was further listed as a Private in Co. K, 54th Regiment GA Infantry and completed his service and was detailed out in Macon, towards the end of the war. He walked home from Macon to Little Satilla River near Stagecoach Road, between Offerman and Screven, GA.
