In the 1880 Census there is a John DAVICE listed as a servant in the home of William and Mary PYLE. Given that they were the step grand parents to John, that they were neighbors to them at the time of the census and he would have been the proper age, I believe this is John Daniel DAVIS

.

John Davis was my grandfather and he was a very handsome man,he was only 5ft.10in.tall but I thought him to be 10ft. He always walked with a cane, had snow white hair and thin,he always walked like the owned the town and I was happiest when he let me walk up town with him because he knew every one in Walton.
