Richmond Davis was born in White, Tennessee, United States on September 4, 1882, son of Tillman Davis (1842–1920) and Elutha Dodson (1846–1927).

Richmond married Laura Gordon Davis (1885–1968)^[1]

• Ada Davis (1908–1995).
