Betsey was born about 1789 in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Her parents were Hannah and Peter Davis. [1]
She was the wife of former slave Aaron Croslear, and the mother of Civil War veteran Edward Augustus Croslear of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color.
