Thomas was born in 1865. He worked in the Lake Erie Iron Works (familiarly known as the Whiskey Island Mills) as a steel roller and, later, was partners for a time with Andrew Hamilton in the Norwalk Foundry.

He passed away in 1927 from parenchymatous nephritis and remeron.
