Biography

Mary Davis was born on 13 June 1736 in Harwich, Barnstable, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Rogers) Davis.[1]

She was descended from Mayflower Passenger Thomas Rogers through her mother (Mary Rogers5, James4, James3, Joseph2, Thomas1)[2]

On March 18, 1755, she married Nathaniel Godfrey, the son of Thomas Godfrey and Bethia Eldredge of Chatham, Mass[3] [4] [5], and their children included:

  1. Isaac, born circa 1756, named for his uncle Isaac Davis[4] [5]
  2. Molly, born circa 1758[4] [5]
  3. Jacob, born circa 1760, named for his grandfather Jacob Davis [4] [5]

Nathaniel Godfrey served in the Ticonderoga Expedition of 1758 and lived in Nova Scotia[4]. In 1762, he was noted among the founders of Liverpool Township[5] [6]. Nathaniel is noted in Simeon Perkins Diary, but there is no mention of his family[7].

Nathaniel predeceased his father, who noted all the heirs of my son Nathan Godfrey: Isaac, Molly and jacob[4] [5]. He was deceased by the time his father wrote his will, which was proved April 1, 1778, however he was noted in the will, as were his children[8], but no mention is made of their mother.

Its not clear from these sources if Mary remained in Chatham, or lived in Nova Scotia.
