Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Thomas McKendree, 84, were held Thursday afternoon January 25, in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Metzger, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Marvin Roark of White Deer.
Ellen Davis, who was born in Kerr County, became the bride of John W. McKendree in 1908 in Alleenreed and moved to Vega in 1914. She died Tuesday morning, January 23, at the home of her son, Aubrey and his wife, Marie. Ms. McKendree was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Vega Methodist Church. Her husband John W. preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors include three sons; Aubrey of Vega, Bishop of Austin, and W.D. of Pampa; three daughters Mrs. Agnes Krahn of Amarillo, Mrs. Winelle Ownbey of Dallas, and Mrs. Evelyn Waters of Slaton; a brother, Mr. Hartley Davidson Allenreed; two sisters, Mrs. Luda Reed of Pampa and Mrs. Nettie Reed of Miami; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.[1]
