William was a shoemaker. Probably the Davis whom family tradition (heard by George Morley) says was transported to Australia (reason unknown) where he killed a prison warder in an unsuccessful escape attempt. Either that was in Van Dieman's Land or he was transferred there after his failed escape attempt.
