Mary was born March 4, 1847 in Upper Clyde, Shelburne, Nova Scotia, to David and Christiana Davies.
Mary (as 'Mary Bezia Davis') married Daniel McGowan on December 30, 1868, in Upper Clyde by license.  Daniel was 30, a bachelor seaman from Liverpool, Queens Co., and Mary was 20, a spinster from Clyde (born Upper Clyde).
Her parents are living with her family during the 1891 census (April 6, 1891).
In the 1901 census (taken April 19) Mary is living in Upper Clyde, and gives her racial origin as Welsh and her religion as Anglican..
Mary (as 'Mary Bessie McGowan') died on July 14, 1918, in Upper Clyde.
She is buried in the Upper Clyde Cemetery. The inscription reads:

Died June 22 1926
July 14 1913
Age 65 Yrs.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Her name appears as 'Mary B Davies' on her daughter's marriage record.
