Biography

Mary was born March 4, 1847[1] in Upper Clyde, Shelburne, Nova Scotia, to David and Christiana Davies.[2]

Mary (as 'Mary Bezia Davis') married Daniel McGowan on December 30, 1868, in Upper Clyde by license. [2] Daniel was 30, a bachelor seaman from Liverpool, Queens Co., and Mary was 20, a spinster from Clyde (born Upper Clyde).

Her parents are living with her family during the 1891 census (April 6, 1891).[3]

In the 1901 census (taken April 19) Mary is living in Upper Clyde,[4] and gives her racial origin as Welsh and her religion as Anglican.[1].

Mary (as 'Mary Bessie McGowan') died on July 14, 1918, in Upper Clyde.[5]

She is buried in the Upper Clyde Cemetery.[6] The inscription reads:
