Civil War Service
Thomas W. Davis enlisted in the Confederate Army in Atlanta, Georgia on March 4, 1862. He enlisted in Company K of the 42nd Regiment of the Georgia Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on March 20, 1862. He was promoted to Captain on March 20, 1863 and assigned to Company G of the 42nd Regiment. He replaced William Malcom as the company commander. He died on July 18, 1863. In his records, there is some confusion about his precise date of death. His wife Ada in her application for pension, stated that his nurse had told her he died on the 18th, but the adjutant of the regiment told her he died on the 29th. The muster roll of December 11, 1863 states he died on July 18th.[2]
