Biography

This profile is part of the Davis Name Study.

Benjamin was born about 1774 in Pennsylvania. He passed away in 1856 in Monroe Township, Ohio. His parents are unknown.

On March 30, 1818, he married Eleanor Marlatt in Berkley County, (West) Virginia.[1][2] The couple had 10 children, most of whom were born in Lemon, Butler, Ohio where Benjamin farmed. On Oct. 16, 1854 he was appointed Postmaster at Allen Township, Miami County, Ohio. Benjamin died in 1856 in Troy, Miami, Ohio and is buried there in Rose Hill Cemetery.[3]

After Benjamin's death Eleanor continued to live in Monroe, Miami, Ohio for a number of years.[4][5] By 1880 Eleanor, was living with their son, Burgoyne Davis in Concord, Miami, Ohio[6]. Burgoyne and his wife Sarah, moved to Warren County, Indiana in the early to mid 1880s and Eleanor probably was still living with them. She died in Greenville, Warren County, Indiana in 1886 and is buried in the Davis Cemetery.[7].
