Biography

Enoch Davis was born on March 14, 1784 in Barrington, Strafford, New Hampshire, United States to Dudley Davis and Mary Polly (Straw) Davis.

During the War of 1812, Enoch Davis served as a private in the 3rd York Militia. In August, 1812, he was drafted into Lieutenant Playter’s Whitby Company. [1]

Enoch married Rachel Sarah Kerr (Kerr-8683) on Nov. 25, 1812 in Darlington Twp., Durham, Ontario, Canada. They had seven children.

On Jan. 10, 1816, Enoch Davis, a yeoman of Whitby Twp., made a land petition to lease Lot 15, Con. 1. He was born in New Hampshire and was 31 years old. David Demaray of Whitby Twp. would provide surety. Wm. Huntington had been given the lease in 1812, had not paid the rent, and gave up his claim to Enoch. The petition was granted if Enoch paid the rent owing. [2]

Enoch passed away on Oct. 22, 1865 in Whitby, Durham, Ontario, Canada.

I have added information to this profile as a project manager with the wikitree Upper Canada War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages and militia record sources. I am not related to this family. The project is at https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:War_of_1812_Upper_Canada&public=1

Please email me, if you have questions about this war and other veterans and their families. John and John J. Kerr served in the 3rd York as well.
