- William Davis was son of Capt. Wm. and Elizabeth (Shelton) Davis. The first five of his sibliings were born in Frederick Co., VA. William was born in NC.
- 4 March 1799 he was married to Leah Smith in Stokes Co., NC
- They were members of Abbotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Davidson Co., NC about 5 miles NW of High Point and are buried in that church cemetery.
- Wm. and Leah had 14 children. Joseph b 1800 to Bartholomew Co, IN // Mary b 1802 died 4 years // Elizabeth b 1804 to Clarendon, SC // Moses b 1805 to Bartholomew Co., IN // Rachel b 1807 to SC // John b 1809 to IN < Lucas Co., IA // Martha b 1810 Davidson Co., NC // Smith b 1812 to Jackson & Bartholomew Co., IN // Solomon b 1814 Davidson Co., NC // William b 1815 Guilford Co., NC // Sarah b 1818 Guilford Co., NC // Leah b 1820 to Bartholomew Co., IN // Keziah b 1822 Guilford Co., NC // Isaac Thompson b 1824 Guilford Co., NC //
- After the death of Leah 14 Jan 1836 Wm. traveled to Wayne Co., IN. His son, Moses, had migrated there and had married Elizabeth Potter 29 Dec 1832. There were also other Davis and Smith relatives who were in Wayne Co. Some had moved there with a group of Quakers.
- Two other of his sons had migrated to the Bartholomew / Jackson Co. area of Indiana. His son John Davis had married Sarah Jones in North Carolina and by 1832 they traveled to Indiana with a group who founded Jonesville, Indiana. I believe that his brothers Moses Davis and Smith Davis (who married Elizabeth Jones) came with that group. Both married in 1832 in Indiana.
- 1 April 1838 Wm was married in Wayne Co. to widow Naomi (Lamb) Lane. By 14 Dec 1838 Wm. and Naomi were back in Guilford Co., NC when a daughter Hannah Perdita (his 15th child) was born.
- After William's death 23 May 1849, Naomi and Hannah returned to Indiana and lived in Rush Co.
Made edits to William Davis profile based on comment on the profile by Eddie King (copied below). This William Davis was in Rowan County, North Carolina within 20 miles of Nancy (Davis) Rollins so it is likely he was her father (about the correct age).
