Note

Note: Who this Samuel Davis was, or whence he came, has long been a problem to his descendants. Some have thought that he was the Samuel, son to Samuel and Anne (Barber) Davis, of Gloucester, who was born June 14, 1750; Samuel had a brother Ebenezer older than himself, and a sister Anna, younger. Their father died in 1759, leaving a widow, Anne, and the three young children. The grandfather of these children, "Samuel Davis, of Gloucester . . . Gentleman,"
m. by Rev. Ephraim Clark.
The marriage intention of Samuel Davis, of Falmouth, and Hannah Dyer, of Cape Elizabeth, was published Nov. 24, 1773, in Cape Elizabeth
Marriage:
Date: 22 DEC 1773
Place: Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Me
