Biography

Descendant
Descendant of Mayflower passengers.
Crown of St Edward

Byron was born at the Blue Hill, Maine hospital. He then resided in Deer Isle, ME until joining the US Army. He returned to Maine and now resides in Portland.

  • Name

Byron is named after his great grand uncle Byron Silence Walton (1887-1971). The birth certificate spelled his middle name as Quimby, however his mother had intended to use the Quinby spelling. The middle name was from his 5th great grandfather Moses Quinby (1759-1824). He later had the middle name legally changed to match his ancestor.

Hi Byron, I looked at my matches on 23&Me but you're not listed. I used the link at the bottom of your profile page to view our genetic relationship and it says we're 9th cousins through Sarah Smedley. Can you tell me where you've found that we're 5th cousins? I'd love to know! I'll look in my ancestry.com tree to see if I have a Myers-Shively connection. Thanks!

~Emmy

Edit: LOL I have you in my tree! I found you through RootsTech. 😁 Now I see the Shively name. David Myers and Eleanor Shively. Their son Wilbur leads to you, and his older brother William leads to me. I will do more research into Eleanor's line. Thank you for the tip!

Hi Byron,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Byron,

Thanks for all your good work on the John Quinby line. It’s good to see people accurately addressing QUINBYS as Quinbys rather than misnaming them “QUIMBY.”

Thank you Maureen,

I did the certification so I could manage the profile of my direct paternal ancestor Davis-2708 who was born in 1698. I found it to be orphaned and wanted to adopt it. I currently have no research that would cause me to create a Pre-1700 profile.

Hi Byron,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi ad welcome Byron,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
