Biography

Pearl Alice Davis was born on 9 Apr 1884 in Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States, daughter of Joshua Brink Davis (1842 - 1920) and Hariett Elizabeth (Harrington) Davis (1845 - 1923).

Her siblings were:

  1. John N Davis (1864 - 1866)
  2. Katherine Elizabeth (Davis) Hess (1867 - 1953)
  3. Thomas Warren Davis (1870 - 1947)
  4. Ernest Guy Davis (1872 - 1923)
  5. Walter Bruce Davis (1874 - 1909)
  6. Lena G Davis (1876 - 1941)
  7. Erma Blanche Davis (1880 - 1960)
  8. Victor Clyde Davis (1888 - ~1975)

Pearl married James M Smith (1880 - 1964) on 2 May 1902 in Coles Creek, Sugarloaf Township, Columbia.

Pearl died on 6 Feb 1919 in Pine Township, Columbia, Pennsylvania aged 34. [1]

As noted in the profile of her brother, Ernest Guy Davis:

Ernest started out renting a farm on Fritz Hill. He later gave that up as it was hard to make a decent living and he went into the lumbering business. He traveled to towns where he bought standing timber, taking his family with him. I have pictures of the house he built when they lived at Schuyler's Lake, NY. It was a double house, the crew lived in one side and the family in the other. Many of the crew worked with him many years.

His sister, Pearl and husband James Smith, lived and traveled with him. Aunt Pearl helped with the cooking etc. Uncle Jim worked in the woods. He brought his brother, Robert, to work with him, he later married Nina, a niece to Pearl & Jim.

James & Robert Smith were the children of a Civil War soldier. I am not sure if he was a casualty, but Robert was sent to Carlisle where he got his schooling. He was an engineer and served in the Engineer in World War I.
