Thomas was born as Thomas DAVIS, but is only known to the family as Thomas DAVISON, son of Thomas DAVIS. (Age at death suggests born about 1819. Age 14 as an altar server suggests 1823)
Soon after the family arrived into New Zealand they attended the first Catholic Mass with Bishop Pompallier at Totara Point on 13 January 1838. This was an historic occasion. Supposedly this son, young Thomas (aged 14 years) was the Altar Server at the Mass, and was given a crucifix as a thank you. There is a crucifix of the French style still in the family in New Zealand, which supports this story.
In 1899 he was listed among a unique gathering of the earliest settlers in New Zealand. [1]
Captain Barry and his mate (Mr Thomas Davison), who date from Bay of Islands, 1837.
