Biography

Lydia was born on 20 August 1702 at Steeton, Yorkshire, the daughter of Dyonis Davy and Martha Bell.^[1] Note, "England birth and baptisms" gives her birth place as Knaresborough, but this is is because her birth was recorded at the Quaker Knaresborough Monthly Meeting.^[2] She is said to be born at "Reedcar in the parish of Kildwick" which is a small farm settlement in Steeton, Kildwick, not the town of Redcar 75 miles away. It was not far from the boundary with Keighley parish, and Lydia's birth was also recorded in the Keighley Quaker Register.^[3][4]
