Biography

John Daw Sr came free to the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

John Wickam Daw Sr was born in Notting Hill, London in 1796.

He married Mary Ann Howard and had children Benjamin, Susannah and Mary Ann

He then married Ellen Orianna Compson and had Joseph, Frances and John Wickam Jr.

In 1838, John, Ellen and their children migrated to South Australia on board the ship Winchester. With them was John's brother William Daw and his family.

In South Australia, John and Ellen had:

Henry DAW was born 13 Oct 1839 in Portabello Farm, Adelaide and died 12 Jul 1922 in New Glenelg.
Emily DAW was born 11 Apr 1842 in Portabello Farm, Adelaide and died Jan 1929.
Francis James DAW was born 24 Aug 1845 in Portobello Farm, SA and died 19 Aug 1940 in Esperance, Western Australi.
Edwin C DAW was born 24 May 1848 in Section 41 District B and died 12 May 1917 in Adelaide, South Australia.
Alfred Compson DAW was born 25 Apr 1850 in St Marys, SA and died 17 Dec 1924 in Mt Barker, South Australia.
Charles Morgan DAW was born 19 Sep 1853 in St Marys, SA and died 19 Mar 1855 in South Australia.
