Nellie was born in 1874 to parents James D. and Malinda A. (Peach) Dawes.

She married Omar (Homer) Gardner in 1890.

Her second marriage to Evan C. Bowen occurred before 1918.

Nellie passed away in 1949.

Obituary
Mrs. Nellie A. Bowen, 74, of 114 East Fourth Street, widow of the late Evan C. Bowen, died in St. Elizabeth's Hospital at 5:45 o'clock Friday morning (7 Jan 1949), of complications.
The deceased, who lived in the community practically all of her life, had been seriously ill for the past three months.
Nellie Bowen was born in Belleville, November 10, 1874, a daughter of the late James D. and Malinda Peach Dawes. In 1890 she was married in her home to Homer Gardner, who died July 29, 1907. Later she was married to Evan C. Bowen, a coal miner, who died in this city, February 18, 1929. Surviving are two sons and two daughters, Roland C. Gardner, Belleville; Rev. James L. Gardner, Granite City; Ada, wife of Levi Ladd, of this city and Madeline, wife of Tony Edmiston, Tomball, Tex. Also nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, William Dawes, Lebanon. One brother, Albert, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Pentecostal church of Lebanon.
Funeral services were conducted at the Wolfersberger-Meyer funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Roland J. Gardner and Rev. Carl Harris officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
