Biography
Eleanor Lowe Dawson was born April 24, 1750, in in Frederick county, Maryland, a daughter of Thomas Dawson and Elizabeth Lowe. Dawsonville, named for her father, was settled quite early, before the establishment of Montgomery County, by the Dawsons, the Allnutts and the Darbys. In 1779, Montgomery county was created from lands that had at one point or another been part of Frederick County. [1]
On March 17, 1771, in Dawsonville, Maryland, Eleanor married Lawrence Allnutt, a son of James Allnutt and Sarah Lawrence. Children of Eleanor and Lawrence are:
Eleanor Allnutt, 1773-1827
Mary Allnutt, 1775-1854
James Nears Allnutt, 1777-1838
Ann Allnutt, 1779-1854
Elizabeth Allnutt Dawson, 1782-1839
Benoni Allnutt, 1785-1859
Susannah Hawkins Allnutt, 1788-1826
Verlinda Allnutt Darby, 1791-1851
Laurence Allnutt, II, 1796-1859
Eleanor's husband, Lawrence Allnut, Sr. died May 18, 1825, at "Mother's Delight" in Dawsonville, and his remains were interred on the family grounds. Eleanor died October 29, 1832, at the age of 82 years and buried with him. Headstones have been erected in the Monocacy Cemetery, in Beallsville, Montgomery county, Maryland, but apparently their remains were not re-interred here. [2]
