Biography

Hugh Framingham Day was born June 29th 1837.

Hugh became a solicitor. He married Anne Mary Simmonds in the first quarter of 1878 in Guildford district.

In 1881, Hugh was named as one of three executors of the estate of John Simmonds of Godalming - perhaps his father in law.

By 1891, Hugh was listed in Whitaker's Almanack as the Town Clerk of Godalming.

Hugh died June 21st 1891 aged 54, at his home, Unthanks, Godalming. He was buried on June 25th in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section.

In his probate record, he is described as a gentleman. Anne was the executrix of his will, and his estate was twelve and a half thousand pounds.

Anne died July 8th 1927 at the age of 78, in her home in Filmer Grove, Godalming. She was buried on the 13th with Hugh.

"The will (dated July 27, 1878) with a codicil (dated June 12, 1879) of Mr. John Simmonds, late of Godalming, Surrey, who died on September 5 last, was proved on the 13th ult., by John Whatley Simmonds, the son, Frederick Boyce Morten, the nephew, and Hugh Framingham Day, the acting executors, the personal estate being sworn under £45,000."[1]
