Biography

Other trees give James Henry Day a birthplace of Isle of Wight, Virginia. There was certainly a Day family in Isle of Wight, but I'm not convinced that James Henry was born there. His father, Richard Thomas Day married Flora Lucinda Jenkins in Frederick County in 1816. She was, perhaps, his second wife. A Thomas Day appears in the 1810 census for Pughtown, Frederick County, with a wife and very young son. Richard Thomas may have been from Isle of Wight, but there's no indication that he returned there before James Henry was born.

In any case, James Henry Day was born in 1824, I believe in Frederick County, or in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

In 1830, the family lived in Spotsylvania, Virginia, but by 1840, they had moved to Madison County, Alabama. James' father, Richard, apparently died soon after arrival there (or even before), because Flora Lucinda is the head of household in that census. James Henry was 16.

James Henry married Mary Ann Martin in Madison in 1846. They remained in Alabama until 1850 or 1851. Their son, Richard Henry, was born in Nacogdoches County, Texas in 1851.

He served as a Confederate soldier - an artillery man.

After the war, the family moved to Grimes County, where he died in 1882.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
