Samuel Day is Notable.

Samuel Stearns Day was born in Bastard Township, Upper Canada on May 13, 1808. He was the son of Jeremiah Day and Submit Stearns.

Samuel was granted a licence to preach by the Branch Church in Bastard in 1833. He was ordained in Cortland, New York. Samuel was appointed as a missionary to India by the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society.

Samuel married Roenna Clark in Homer, New York on August 23, 1835.

The Days departed for India on September 23, 1835, and arrived in Calcutta on February 5, 1936. They settled in Vizagapatam. In 1837, they moved to Madras. In 1840, they moved to Nellore.

Due to illness, the Days had to return to America, departing on December 3, 1845. In 1849, Samuel returned to India, leaving Roenna in America. He had to return to America in 1853, again due to illness. Between 1855 and 1859, he worked as a missionary agent for the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society.

Samuel died in Homer, New York on September 17, 1871, and was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer[1].

Notes

  • Bastard Township was amalgamated with the townships of North Crosby, South Crosby, South Burgess and South Elmsley with the village of Newboro to form Rideau Lakes Township on January 1, 1998[2].
