Douglas Pierce Jay was born on 29 Apr 1891 in Sutton, Surrey, England as the ninth child of Peel Cockburn Hamilton Jay and Isabella Lydia Philippa BERRELL. He had nine siblings, namely: Margaret Adelaide, Charles Lancaster, George C., Thomas Hutchinson, Edith Berrell, Christmas Warwick, Mildred Isabel, Harry Girdlestone, and Jane Steers. He died on 15 Aug 1917 in Méricourt, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France (Killed in action during WWI; Trenches SW of Mericourt).

Douglas Pierce Jay was baptized on 21 Jun 1891 in St Barnabas, Sutton, Surrey, England. He lived in Carshalton, Surrey, England in 1901 (Age: 9; Relation to Head: Son). He served in the military between 1914–1917 in Canada (Private, Canadian Machine Gun Corps.;Regimental Number: 602213 ;). He lived in Canada in 1914. He lived in Canada on 12 Jan 1915.

Died in Service in WWI and is listed on the Vimy Memorial. Vimy is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. It is located 3.8 kilometers east of the Canadian National Vimy Memorial dedicated to the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the Canadian soldiers who were killed during the war. The Memorial is also the site of two Canadian cemeteries.
