Biography
There is no primary source evidence that the maiden name of Elizabeth, wife of Mathias Reed of Vermont, is Day. The only place Elizabeth Day's maiden name is found is in Cleveland Family Genealogy.[1] There is no other reference to her maiden name, however, see Research Notes for possible sources of what are probable conflations seen many places. It appears the conflation with an Elizabeth Day may stem from the work of John Foote Norton where an Elizabeth Day of New Hampshire is wife to a Phinehas Reed.[2]
Note: There are some conflicts between marriage date and birth dates of some children.

Research Notes
- New Hampshire Bureau of Vital Records. “Marriage Records.” New Hampshire Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics, Concord, contains a marriage record for an Elizabeth Day to a Phineas Reed dated 19 Mar 1789. This indexed record contains no other information however other, undocumented, sources have listed Elizabeth's husband as Phineas rather than Matthias.
- Probate Records (Oswego County, New York), 1816-1915; Author: New York. Surrogate's Court (Oswego County); Probate Place: Oswego, New York, contains an Elizabeth Reed who died intestate 1855 and a John Reed was appointed executor. This record has been discounted given there was no son named John.
