Joseph Daynes was born on 15 Mar 1746 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut Colony, son of James Dains (1716 - 1779) and Elizabeth (Rood) Daynes (1716 -? ).

Joseph Deans was born to parents James Daynes Elizabeth Rood on 15 March 1745/6. The Norwich record for his birth spells the surname "Deens"; for his siblings it was spelled "Deans" or "Deens."[1]
