Biography

James was born in 1795. James was the child of Abraham DeForest and Elizabeth Bowman. James passed away in 1880. [1]

During the War of 1812, James DeForest served as private in the 5th Lincoln Militia. He served from September 25 to October 24, 1812 in Captain Samuel Hatt’s Flank Company and was present at the Battle of Queenston Heights on October 13th. [2]

On September 11, 1815, James Deforest certified the war claim of Joseph House as a resident of Ancaster Twp. [3]

In 1820, James was eligible for a 100-acre militia land grant but did not apply nor receive one. His brother Simon delayed claiming his grant until 1837.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
