Delmar was born about 1903. He is the son of Hector DeHart and Iona Wolford. He was reared on a farm in Iowa and went to Chicago and worked for a radio station WBBM as an engineer for fifteen years. The call of the country became too much he began raising mink as a hobby in 1932 but in 1945 he became a full-time fur farmer.
Delmar was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is buried at Center Chapel Cemetery, Vernon, Van Buren County, Iowa.
