Biography

Šųkskaga was Ho-Chunk.

The English translation of the name is given as "White Wolf." Ongs-ka-ka is in fact a corruption of Šųk-ska-ga, which literally means, "White Dog." Šųk denotes a dog, šųkjąk, a wolf. Šųk-ska-ga is normally a name in the Wolf Clan (Lurie), but by birth he will have been a member of the Thunderbird Clan. So the name must have been given to him as an honorific name in connection with some incident or attribute now lost to history.
