Biography

Birth and Early Life

Jean DEMERS DUMAIS CHEFDEVILLE was born on 20 Sept 1800 and baptised the following day. His parents were Jean DEMERS DUMAIS CHEFDEVILLE, a farmer, and Marie-Josephe TRIHER (TRIERE) dite LAVIGUEUR. They lived in the parish of Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie, which was an area founded by Acadian refugees from Nova Scotia. It is now in the town of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada. Jean was the eldest of 12 children born to Jean and Marie-Josephe:

Marriage and Children

Jean became a farmer and at age 22 married Louise BOUCHER on 30 September 1823, St-Luc (St-Jean Sur Richelieu) Qué, (Parents : Jean Louis BOUCHER 1779- & Louise LAREAU 1775-). [1] Together they had 14 known children: [2]

  2. Jean DEMERS (b. April 19, 1826; m (1) 12 January 1847, m (2) 8 January 1855)
  3. Louise DEMERS (b. December 12, 1827; d. March 10, 1828) died as infant
  4. Rosalie DEMERS (b. January 12, 1829)
  5. Jean Marie DEMERS (b. January 12, 1830; d. January 19, 1830) died as infant
  6. Louis DEMERS (b. February 26, 1831; d. April 8, 1831) twin of Euphrosine; both died as infants
  7. Euphrosine DEMERS (b. February 26, 1831; d. March 12, 1831) twin of Louis; both died as infants
  8. Lucie DEMERS (b. March 17, 1832; d. August 8, 1832) died as infant
  9. Marguerite DEMERS (b. April 12, 1835; m. 31 January 1854)
  10. Medard DEMERS (b. March 3, 1837; m. 23 February 1857)
  11. Celeste DEMERS (b. March 21, 1839)
  12. Philomene DEMERS (b. June 17, 1841; m. 25 October 1863)
  13. Sophronie DEMERS (b. December 25, 1843)
  14. Felix DEMERS (b. April 26, 1846; d. June 29, 1846) died as infant

Death and Burial

Louise, Jean's wife, died on 25 May 1863. Jean died (age 71) 14 December 1871 and was buried 2 days later on 16 December, 1871.[3] Both Louise and Jean were buried at St-Alexandre, Iberville.

Demers-1091 and DeMars-16 appear to represent the same person because: same person. I believe the LNAB is correct Demers; however, his ancestors changed it to DeMars.
