Thomas Desmarais was born in 1814 to father Olivier Desmarais and Marie Angele Pepin Lachance. He was born St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.[1] [2]Although his birth record shows his name to be Damase Olivier Démarais, he preferred and used Thomas much of his life. Many children's records refer to him as Thomas.

He was married twice, first to Olive Mongeon and second to Marie Tetreau.

He died in 1873 and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery in Michigan.[3]

Thomas was born and baptized as Damase Olivier Demarais on 09 Dec 1814 in La Presentation, Quebec. He is named Olivier Damase Desmarais on his marriage record with Olive Mongeon and is named as Olivier Demarais on his marriage record with Marie Tetreau. Thomas and Marie were married on 21 Feb 1843 in St-George de Noyan, Henryville, Quebec. His LNAB should be Demarais or Desmarais which is the surname on his baptismal record and both marriage records. He started using Demorrow when he immigrated to the US.

Correction to place of marriage for Thomas and Marie. Per Drouin they were married in Henryville, Canada.

Eric, thank you for correcting the mother information. Now I'm trying to add sources to some of the people down the line. This Thomas on this date seems to be actually Damase Olivier Demarais. His last name at birth should be changed to the actual last name, and the first name should be corrected as well. I also added the Fina A Grave Source, which has the wrong LNAB, incorrect birthdate and place but right parents.

Thomas was my great grandfather. I asked my mother about his name after seeing an old photo. She told me that he liked the name Thomas. That is the name that was used by the family. Thomas is the key in discovering the transition of the family from Canada to the US. Family records place him in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan but I cannot find any official records for him before he migrated to Michigan. I'm hoping someone here has a clue for me to follow.

So glad to hear from you! That clears up why his birth name and death names are different (Damase = Thomas). I've attached the documentation for the canadian information, he came from Henryville in Quebec where he was first married. My sources said he married Marie Tetreau also in Henryville, not Kankakee. You can click on family tree and tools to see his whole family history. Most of my sources rquire a subscription, but I would be happy to take screenshots to show you the originals if you want them. Hope this is helpful, don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Thank you Cindy. I have the Drouin doc listing the marriage of Olivier and Marie in Henryville. I'll check out the tree tomorrow ... past my bedtime now. Thankyou

Eric, I'm pretty dure this mother could not be the mother of Thomas DeMorrow as she was born in 1878, after his birth and even after his death. Could you check and connect her with the right family?
