William (French: Guilliaume) was born 25 SEP 1689 at St Peters, New Kent County, Virginia. He was christened Oct 24, 1689. William's mother died about a month after he was born.
His father, Robert Depriest was born after 1660, probably in France. Robert Depriest came to America (Virginia) as a French Huguenot during the late 1600s. Robert died in Goochland County, Virginia, in 1710. A Robert Depriest was taxed on 350 acres as evidenced by the 1704 Quit Rent Rolls of New Kent County, Virginia, page 488. On May 17, 1785, Robert Richardson convened to Jon Richardson 300 acres in Hanover County, Virginia that were received from Robert's grandfather, Robert Depriest.
William married Judith about 1725. William & Judith's children:
When Hanover county was formed from New Kent County the DePriest family was in the new county. This is where they lived for about 9 years, until 1734.
In 1734 (3 years before he died) William purchased 200 acres in Goochland Co., Va. where the DePriest family lived along Lickinghole Creek. Goochland County deed book shows a deed dated June 16, 1740 (George Southerland to Robert Chowning) for land on the north side of James River on branch of Lickinghole Creek, "bounded by William DePreist, dec'd", etc. [William's daughter Mary married George Southerland III]
William died in 1737 (age 47) and Judith raised most of her children before she finally married a neighbor, John Hodges in 1750. William made provision in his will for the education of his 5 children, so the two youngest boys, John and Robert, must have been twins born after William's death.
